The Eglevsky Ballet Summer Intensive Program offers Intermediate and Advanced Levels of dance, focusing on ballet. Designed for ages 11 and up; as well as a Young Dancer Division for ages 6 - 11. For the student interested in a career in dance we also offer a Pre-Professional Division. We use the dance department facilities of Hofstra University, located in Hempstead, NY approximately 20 miles east of NYC.
Eglevsky Ballet’s Summer Intensive has earned a reputation for being the most thorough and rewarding dance experience a student can have during the summer on Long Island. Under the supervision of Marina Eglevsky the program offers top quality teachers and master guest teachers that are dedicated to the learning process and growth of each individual student. Class size will be limited.
The Summer Intensive focuses on developing well-rounded dancers by exposure to a wide variety of disciplines with an emphasis on classical ballet technique. Dancers in each Summer Intensive Division have the opportunity to perform in a final performance showcasing selections from repertoire and new choreography created during the program. This year the final performance will be held in a near-by theater giving students the added opportunity for stage experience and skills.
Young Dancer Division - Ages 6-11 (12:00 or 3:00 Dismissal option) – offers the opportunity for young dancers to actively flourish in a professional, yet nurturing environment. The outstanding faculty will provide unparalleled instruction, while remaining sensitive to the developmental needs of younger dancers. This program will focus on building a solid foundation in ballet technique and educating younger dancers about related topics in the world of dance. Students will begin each day with a ballet technique class, and will continue with other classes beneficial to the development of a dancer such as character dance, Spanish dance and drama class. In addition they will learn choreography which will be performed at the End of Program Performance. Classes will be geared toward the young dancers and provide them with a well-rounded dance education appropriate to their age/ability. Our young dancers have an option of taking classes from 9:00-12 or extending their day to 3:00.
Intermediate/Advanced Division - Ages 12 and up – is a comprehensive and rigorous training program designed to teach dancers the techniques and discipline necessary to improve their skill level and enhance their love of dance. Dancers will learn repertoire which will be geared for stage presentation at the End of Program Performance. Students participate in a minimum of four classes per day. The day begins with a technique class followed by a pointe class. After lunch the day varies with different dance disciplines such as character, modern, repertoire, jazz, choreography, Spanish and drama. Dancers will be placed in the appropriate level according to their ability. Classes will be held from approximately 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Pre-Professional Division - is the most advanced level of study in the program. It prepares our students to take the next step toward their professional careers or prepare for college dance programs with confidence and skill, emphasizing on acquiring performing skills and professional guidance. The PP’s will be showcased in the End of the Program Performance, with repertoire that is challenging and specifically chosen for them to further their training towards professionalism. The PP’s are the first of the advanced students to be chosen for performance opportunities with the Eglevsky Ballet Company, and are groomed as well for apprenticeships with dance companies around the world.
